West Midlands Basketball League

Committee Meeting – 7 April 2009

Present:- Mike Neal (Chair), Dave Slade (Vice Chair), Andy Millington (Secretary),
Keith Kershaw (Referees), Jane Huffer (Treasurer), Tony Johnson (Appeals), Denise Kearney (Fixture Changes), Makis Chatzmichallis(Media Manager), Roy Francis, Stephen Barnes, John Taylor, Zoran Pancic, Kevin Henry and Nigel Evans.

The Minutes of the previous meeting were read over and signed as being correct, with the exception that (a) Kevin Henry had sent his apologies, and (b) the date of the April meeting should read 7th April, not the 4th.

  1. Matters Arising.


    1. The Trophies have been purchased, the Secretary is to chase up and remind teams holding
      trophies to return them.
    2. Stoke Heath fine annulled, visiting team failed to attend.


  1. Chairman’s Discipline Report (Mike Neal)


    1. Ref. 290303 Lee Dicken (Warley C) suspended for 3 games and fined £10 as of 5.5.09.


    1. Ref. 290304 Stuart Harvey (Chase B) suspended for 3 games and fined £10 as of 5.5.09.


  1. Secretary’s Report (Andy Millington)


    1. An e-mail from John Griffiths (Pro Guard) was read out in response to his failed appeal
      in March. The matter was discussed at length, but it was felt that the reply sent by Tony Johnson covered the Committee’s position,
      but the fine was frozen at its current fee.


    1. Stuart Harvey (Chase B) had been in contact with the Secretary over his referees grading
      of “E” in a recent match. Stuart wished to change to grade to a “C” having filled the form out in haste at the time of the match.


    1. Shropshire Warriors attended Perry Beeches School for their match with Aston A’s on 6th April. Aston A’s failed to attend. Aston A’s are fined £25 (rule6f) and loose the match 20-0-1 point. The Committee are concerned about the record of Aston A’s and a representative of the team is instructed to attend the next Committee meeting at 7.00pm to explain their position.


    1. Arup Campus failed to attend the last Committee Meeting, and there are concerns about the
      fines incurred by that club. The Secretary is to contact the Arup Secretary to resolve the matter.


    1. All Clubs are reminded that all outstanding fines MUST be paid by 31.5.09.


    1. Application forms for next season have been sent out and 3 replies and cheques already
      received! The fee for next season will again be £80 which will include a new scorebook for all teams applying.


  1. Appeals Secretary (Tony Johnson)


    4.1 Teams fined for failing to complete assessment form fined £5.00 rule 6n.

    1. Makis has produced an extensive report which is attached at appendix 1.


    6. Referees’ Secretary (Keith Kershaw)

      6.1 As we approach the end of another season I would like to thank all Officials
      for their efforts, especially during the last 6 weeks.

    1. There is the prospect of a Level 2 course being run in September by Steve
      Ellis & Rob Palmer.


    1. Ian Care has moved home to 13 Croome Road, Worcester, WR2 4PL.

7. Competitions Committee


      7.1 WM 228 Stoke Heath v ARUP Campus. Fine & Refs fees still outstanding.


      7.2 WM 240. Aston A’s v Lasers. Fine still outstanding.


      7.3 WM333. Stoke Heath v David Lloyds. This game was brought forward to 29 March to enable David Lloyds to play their Rose Bowl game in April. The date was agreed by telephone with both teams. David Lloyds failed to arrive. Their new Secretary – Ian Webber – claims they did not go because “It was not on the web-site”. Game awarded to Stoke Heath 20-0.No point to David Lloyds. David Lloyds fined £20 + referee expenses of £60.


      7.4 WM 150. Walsall Wizards A v Stafford Hoops. Stafford Hoops cancelled the game by telephone on the afternoon of the game.
      Game awarded to Walsall Wizards 20-0. No point to Stafford Hoops. Stafford Hoops fined £20 for late cancellation.


      7.5 WM328. Birmingham Blazers v Barton. Barton cancelled this game on 30 March as they could not field a team due to work commitments.
      Game awarded to Blazers 20-0. No point to Barton.


      7.6 WM322. Aston A’s v Shropshire. Aston A’s failed to attend this fixture. Game awarded to Shropshire 20 -0. No point to Aston A’s. Aston A’s fined £25

  1. Cup competitions


    The finals of the Rosebowl & Shield competitions will take place at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Sports Hall on Sunday 3rd May. The Shield Final will tip-off at 17.15 and the Rosebowl Final will tip-off at 19.00.

  1. Handicaps


    The Competitions Committee have reviewed current team strengths and decided on the following changes to handicaps.

Wyre Forest reduced to 65. David Lloyds reduced to 91.

    For both competitions the Management Committee reserves the right to alter handicaps if deemed necessary.


Will all home clubs ensure they have their sports hall reserved for these games.

Games MUST be played in the week designated.

  1. Summer League


    This year we have 12 teams which will entail 9 Tuesday nights at Leasowes Sports
    Centre commencing 5th May. Full details will be sent to the competing Clubs.

17. Date of Next Meeting

    The next Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 5th May 2009 in Room 45 at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen, at 6.30pm prompt.
