WEST MIDLANDS BASKETBALL LEAGUE

COMMITTEE MEETING – 12 JANUARY 2010

Present Mike Neal (Chairman), Dave Slade (Vice Chairman), Jane Huffer (Treasurer), Keith Kershaw (Referees), Denise Kearney (Fixtures), Kevin Henry, Barry Viner, Nigel Evans. Zoran Pancic.

The minutes of the meeting held on 1st December 2009 were approved.

1. Matter arising

Nothing that is not covered by reports below.

2. Discipline (Mike Neal)

    2.1 Ref 081204. Alex Gardner (BC Bears) is suspended for 3 games from midnight 5th January 2010 and fined £10 (see treasurers report).

3. League Secretary (Andy Millington)

    3.1 David Lloyds. Reports have been received from a club and Tony Johnson regarding the suitability and safety of the free standing baskets at David Lloyds Fitness centre. The Committee have decided to suspend games at David Lloyds Fitness Centre until proof is received that the free standing baskets are England Basketball approved, or the Fitness Centre provide a Risk Assessment of the equipment. The Competitions Committee to liase with the club regarding immediate fixtures.

    3.2 Summer League. One club, Bromsgrove had indicated their interest for this event initially planned for a Sunday.

4.Referee’s secretary

    4.1 A reminder that officials who have accepted games and then fail to turn up will be fined. I am getting a little fed up of some officials who are letting the League down.

4.2At present there is one game in January to cover.

    4.3I hope to get the February appointments out in the next 10 days. I will be on holiday between 3rd and 11thFebruary.

    4.4Please note that Lee Loveridge will not be available for the period 25th January until 25th March due to work commitments
    in Canada

5. Competitions Committee

Rose Bowl & K O Shield

The draw for the 4th round of the Rose Bowl, and 2nd round of the K.O. Shield have been made and clubs have been informed of the games separately by the League Secretary.
These games will be played w/c 24 January.

Finals Day. This will be on Sunday 25th April 2010 at Great Barr Leisure Centre.
The K O Shield will tip-off at 14.15, and the Rose Bowl at 16.15. It is anticipated that the bar will be open!

WM-139. Walsall Wizards B v Wyre Forest B. Wyre Forest unable to raise a team & conceded the game. Game awarded to Wizards B 20 -0. No point Wyre
Forest B.

WM-153. Barton v Hawks. Game cancelled by Hawks on the morning of the fixture. Game awarded to Barton 20-0. No point Hawks. Hawks fined
£10 for late
cancellation.

WM-156 Stoke Heath v Blazers B. Blazers B failed to appear for this fixture and failed to follow Rule 3Ciii procedure. Game awarded to Stoke Heath 20-0. No point Blazers B. Blazers B fined £20 for non appearance plus referee expenses of £20.

WM 161 Stoke v BC Bears. Bears failed to arrive for this game .Game awarded to Stoke 20-0. No point BC Bears. BC Bears to pay referee expenses of £42- already paid by Bears.

WM171 Featherstone v Hawks. Late cancellation by Hawks who were unable to raise a team. Game awarded to Featherstone 20-0. No point Hawks.

7. Appeals (Tony Johnson)

7.1 There have been no appeals this month.

7.2 Table Officials course. No further information at present

7.3 Missing assessment sheets. I am missing 9 sheets for the moth of November.

8 Any other business

8.1 Summer League 2010. Leasowes Sports Centre have recently informed us that

we may be able to run the Summer League on a Tuesday evening as in past

seasons. More details to follow.

8.2 League applications 2010.Following the withdrawal of 75% of the teams

applying to join our league this season, it was agreed that a sub- committee is set

up to produce a paper which will outline the obligations ,commitments,
and

running costs, to any prospective new clubs. Any new applications would then be


interviewed prior to the AGM. Nigel Evans, Barry Viner, and Tony Johnson

have agreed to undertake this project
