WEST MIDLANDS BASKETBALL LEAGUE

COMMITTEE MEETING – 2 MARCH 2010

The Minutes of the meeting held on 2nd February 2010 were approved.

  1. Matters Arising

    Summer League. Due to the very slow response from Clubs it was decided that the Secretary would circulate all Clubs with a final ultimatum giving them until 12 March 2010 to apply. Otherwise the Summer League would not take place.

  1. Discipline (Mike Neal)


    1. Reference 11-02-05 – A. Vladimirov (62205, Aston Uni) is suspended for six games and fined £20 as from midnight 2 March 2010.
    2. Reference 14-02-06 – S. Murray (62206, Aston Uni) is suspended for six games and fined £20 as from midnight on 2 March 2010.


  1. Secretary (Andy Millington)


    1. The Secretary apologies for the lack of up to date tables for the last couple of weeks, explaining that he had purchased a new computer which was still awaiting a programme
      which will enable the software to work properly, this was expected in the next few days.


  1. Referees (Keith Kershaw)
    1. There are still a number of appointments to fill in March.
    1. We have around 20 games in April and the appointments will be issued shortly.


  1. Competitions Committee


    1. Rose Bowl. Final Lordswood v Wyre Forest A/ Shropshire Warriors.

    1. K .O. Shield Final Birmingham Mets v Walsall Wizards B.


      5.3 Finals Day. This will be on Sunday 25th April 2010 at Great Barr Leisure Centre. The K O Shield will tip-off at 14.15, and the Rose Bowl at 16.15. It is anticipated that the bar will be open during the afternoon.

      6.League Fixtures


      6.1 The problems with the backboards at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Sports Hall have now been fixed
      and all fixtures involving Blazers & Balkan express will go ahead as planned.

      6.2 WM 273 Old Sils v Hawks. Game cancelled less than 24 hours by Hawks. Game awarded to Old Sils 20 -0. No point Hawks. Hawks fined £10 for late cancellation.

      6.3 WM 276 Blazers A v Wyre Forest A. request for postponement from Wyre Forest A due to illness. Game re-arranged for 28 April.

      6.4 WM 285 Churchbridge A v Stoke. Stoke failed to attend this fixture. See Rule 6f. Game awarded to Churchbridge A 20-0. No point Stoke. Stoke fined £25 + referee expenses £40.

      6.5 WM 306 David Lloyds v Hawks. Hawks unable to field a team. Game cancelled over days 7 days ahead. Game awarded to David Lloyds 20-0. No point Hawks.

      The following games have now been re-arranged. The fixtures agreed by clubs & inserted into match schedule.

Summer League 2010


      7.1 There have only been 3 enquiries for this years’ competition to be played on a Tuesday evening at Leasowes Sports Centre 20.00-22.00. League Secretary to send a final reminder to all clubs. The cost will be approximately £150 per team.

      Last date for entry (including a £50 deposit) is 12th March.

9. Appeals Secretary (Tony Johnson)

      9.1 An appeal from David Lloyds has been received this month. The appeal was overruled.

      9.2 NOTICE TO TEAM SECRETARIES. All clubs must fill out a league application form for the season 2010-2011 and return to the Treasurer by 31.5.10.

    9.3 All outstanding fines must be paid by 31.5.10.

      9.4 TROPHIES. All teams holding trophies must return them to a Committee member by 31.5.10.

10. Any Other Business

      10.2 League information leaflet. Papers outlining the league Organisation and estimate of costs for new clubs were presented for discussion.

      10.2 League structure 2010. In light of the current financial situation, increased court hire costs, and increasing fuel costs clubs currently in Division 2 & 3 are asked for their views on the possibility of re-organising the 2 divisions on a regional basis.


11. Date of Next Meeting

    The next Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 13th
    April 2010 in room 45 at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen, at 6.30 prompt.
