WEST MIDLANDS BASKETBALL LEAGUE

COMMITTEE MEETING – 6 OCTOBER 2009

Present: Mike Neal (Chair), Dave Slade (Vice Chair), Andy Millington (Secretary), Keith Kershaw (Referees), Jane Huffer (Treasurer), Denise Kearney (Fixture Changes), Makis Chatzimichalis (Media Manager), Tony Johnson (Appeals), Zoran Pancic, Kevin Henry, Nigel Evans and Stephen Barnes.

Apologies: John Taylor, Jim Smith and Barrie Viner.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read over and signed as being correct.

  1. Matters Arising.


      5.3 Only Worcester and Birmingham Mets have paid their guarantee fee as new clubs. NVP Rockets have not paid. The £20 guarantee must be paid to the Treasurer by the next Committee meeting otherwise a fine in line with rule 6k will be applied.

      4.1 The first sentence of this paragraph is altered to read, “an appeal was heard from Emma Gardner”

      4.1 Emma Jane Gardner, Adam Griffin, Laurence Rollerson and Lee Silcock have all now paid their portion for the Spartans fine (minutes 4.8.2004) and are free to play in the West Midlands Basketball League.

      5.2 Ricky Prince had been named as a member of the Aston A’s team who owe a portion of outstanding fines. Although Ricky Prince was registered at the start of last season, he did transfer to Wyre Forest during the season and is therefore not responsible for any part of the outstanding fine. All other named players remain suspended until their portion of the fine is paid.

  1. Secretary (Andy Millington)


    1. Old Edwardians have withdrawn from the West Midlands Basketball League.


    1. Warley B have withdrawn from the West Midlands Basketball League.


    1. Lordswood have moved to a new court at Nechelles Community Sports Centre, Rupert Street, Nechelles, and Birmingham. B7 5DT, tip off 8.15 still on a Wednesday.


    1. Warley C have moved to a new venue - Oldbury Sports Centre on a Friday evening.


      2.5 Will all teams who have moved to a new venue, or have altered tip off time or playing date please remember that it is your responsibility to inform the visiting team prior to the match date.

3. Appeals Secretary (Tony Johnson)

3.1. Appeals. There were no appeals during the month of
September.

      3.2 Table Course. The Table Officials’ Course took places at Leasowes Sport Centre on the 21st September. A total of 10 students
      completed the course, 5 from Walsall Wizards, 2 from Churchbridge, 2 from Birmingham Mets and 1 from Lasers Ladies. We have now trained a total of 46 Table Officials to date. I would like to thank Rebecca Orleans
      for being the course tutor and for all her hard work and effort to ensure the students received a first class course.

      Rebecca has agreed to organize and run further Table courses on behalf of the WMBL. The next WMBL Table course is planed to take place Jan 2010 watch out for course details.

      3.3 I have amended the League Application forms so that the League requirement for Table Officials is clear. The form will be placed on the website.

    1. Club Table Officials.
      The following teams have not responded to the Committee ruling to supply names for Club Table Officials are fined £15. Rule 6k.


    The following Teams had no Table Officials registered on the League application form:

Aston Uni

Stoke

Lordswood

Wolves CC Slam

Birmingham Blazers B

    The following teams had only 1 Table Official registered on their League application form:

Wolves CC

Smithswood

Barton

David Lloyds

NPV Rockets

    The committee discussed the situation regarding Table Officials. The League will refund the fine if the above teams send candidates to the next course, to ensure
    their club meet League ruling 3biii.

  1. David Lloyds


    1. Ian Webber from David Lloyds attended the meeting to inform the Committee about the new court that the club have secured from their sponsor David Lloyds. Ian will inform all the relevant clubs about tip off and location times prior to matches taking place as per 2.5 above. David Lloyd Racquet & Fitness Centre, Shady Lane, Great Barr, Birmingham, B44 9ER, tip-off Sunday 17.30.


  1. Referees Secretary (Keith Kershaw)


      5.1 With immediate effect referee’s who take on other games (i.e. National League) after accepting games from me will have to find their own replacement & then inform me who that person is.

      5.2 A reminder that officials who have accepted games and then fail to turn up will be liable to a fine.

    1. October appointments. I still have a few gaps to fill following the 1st round of the Rose Bowl.


    1. November draft appointments will be circulated within the next 7 days.


6. Competitions Committee

      Rose Bowl.

      6.1 The updated 2nd round draw will be
      circulated to all clubs by the League Secretary. Clubs need to check for their game. Games MUST be played in the designated week. Clubs visiting new venues are strongly advised to contact the home team
      for accurate directions & confirmation of tip-off times.

      League fixtures:

      WM005. David Lloyd’s v Bromsgrove. Game cancelled in less than 7 days by the home club. Match awarded to Bromsgrove 20 -0. No point to David Lloyds.

      WM010. Wyre Forest v Aston Sils. Cancelled by Competition Committee to accommodate Rose Bowl game. New date to be arranged.

      WM013. Birmingham Mets v Blazers A. Cancelled by Blazers A on the day of the game due to them not being aware that Mets had changed their home match day. No reference to this change had been recorded in the September minutes. Game arranged for 12 October.

      WM109. Warley C v Churchbridge B. Game cancelled by Warley C. New date to be arranged.

      WM169 Walsall Wizards B V Churchbridge B. Game cancelled due to sports hall unavailable. Game re-arranged for 19 October.

      7. Treasurer’s Report (Jane Huffer)

    1. Monies paid:


Worcester has paid all outstanding fines.

Birmingham Mets have paid their surety fee.

    1. Outstanding monies:


New clubs surety fee –Rule 2fii. NPV Rockets.

      Aston A’s.£130 outstanding debt. Percentage to be paid by all players listed in September minutes, Item 5.2. Before they can participate in West Midlands League. No monies yet paid.

    1. New fines:


      The following teams are fined £15 under Rule 6K for failing to inform the committee of the names of their Table Officials, see Rule 3biii. (See Appeals Secretary
      report)

    1. Summer League 2010.


      Leasowes Sports centre will not be available mid-week. We could have it on a Sunday afternoon, either 15.00-17.00, or 16.00 -18.00. If clubs want a mid-week league then a new venue will have to be found. We need your thoughts now, not next March, so that we can plan ahead. All replies and sensible suggestions, to the League Secretary please.




8.Any Other Business

    Attention is drawn to a circular from England Basketball regarding the vetting and baring scheme. This will affect any volunteers who want to work with children and vulnerable adults from November 2010. This will be attached again to these minutes as adendum1.

9. Date of next meeting.

    The next Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 3rd November 2009 in room 45 at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen at 6.30pm prompt.
